Many years ago, when I was a new seeker, Fr. Louis F. Knight, the first pastor of St. Edward the Confessor parish in Dana Point, used to make this pronouncement every time he expressed the Prayers of the Faithful at Mass. I have never forgotten the look on his face, the inflection in his voice. Having just returned to my faith, a tenuous, anonymous person in the pews, his words of encouragement were like beams of light shining through a dark and stormy sky. What I heard was that even though there are still lingering doubts and questions, God dwells in the very act of seeking, waiting patiently and expectantly for all of us.
