The other night as I put my son to bed he told me that he was too afraid of the dark to sleep. When I asked whether there was anything I could do he replied, “Yes. Will you pray with me?” How effortlessly he turned to God to shield him from his fears! Why as adults do we struggle to do the same, sometimes allowing our fears to overwhelm us? Or, even more puzzling, why do we try battling our fears alone? Let us reflect today on the fears we carry with us and how those fears might be interfering with our ability to enjoy life. Imagine Christ as our impenetrable shield standing between us and the darkness. He is with us always. He cannot be defeated. He is all we need.
