Each new year, I have my family write down their goals for the year in five categories: personal, family, physical, intellectual, and spiritual. Then, I place five rocks I collected on my meditation walk on the beach. I ask them to think of a word they want to have for the year and to write that word on their rock. This is not an easy thing to do and requires some thought. My sons resist but I gently persuade them to finish the task. Each year they bring out their goals from the previous year along with their rock and are surprised how much was really accomplished as we get to talking about it. I remind them that prayer is a big part of them attaining and persevering on life’s journey. God speaks to us in our everyday life and if we write down intentional goals or prayers, we are usually surprised how God answers us throughout the year. What is your word for this year?
