I was drawn to the book Walk in a Relaxed Manner…Life Lessons from the Camino by Joyce Rupp because I am challenged by the wonderfully simple lessons learned when walking an 800 km pilgrimage in Spain, otherwise known as the Camino. Joyce and her friendTom find the sacredness and peace of not rushing or pushing themselves by intentionall walking in a relaxed manner both internally and externally. This allowed them time to enjoy the scenery of life and to live in the present moment with each step. I resonated with their experience, knowing that the sacredness of pilgrimage changes the heart and soul. Interestingly, we don’t have to travel to far off places to experience this. It begins anytime we are open and present to the wonder of life and walk daily with God, knowing grace is sufficient to sustain us in all circumstances. The challenge is to empty out our backpacks of those things that weigh us down and to make room for the Holy One to lead us.
