“How beautiful are all God’s works! even to the spark and fleeting vision! The universe lives and abides forever; to meet each need, each creature is preserved.”  Sirach 42:24

Long ago, when I was a little girl, one of the first movies that influenced my life was a film called “The Song of Bernadette.” A black and white classic now, it tells the story of Bernadette Soubirous, a poor French girl who purported to see a vision of a beautiful lady on the banks of the river Gave in a place called Massabielle, in Lourdes, France. The haunting story followed me throughout my adult life and I spent a fair amount of time reading many books about the strange phenomena that happened to such an unlikely person in such an unlikely place. Suddenly, in the process, images, medals, relics and other coincidental experiences with Bernadette came flooding my way. After awhile, I realized that we were meant to be spiritual friends. I credit Bernadette with increasing the love and appreciation I have for Mary today. Bernadette helped me find one of my favorite songs by Leonard Cohen and sung by Jennifer Warnes
