…And over all these put on love, that is, the bond of perfection. Colossians 3:14

How do I pour out my love on others?

When I need to be challenged to pour out my love, I often turn to Father Gregory Boyle, author of Tattoos on the Heart: The Power of Boundless Compassion, for inspiration. “God can get tiny if we’re not careful,” (19) he states in the opening chapters.  This simple yet profound statement reverberates through this utterly inspiring and unexpectedly emotional account of one person’s single-minded goal to extend God’s unconditional love to the gang members of Los Angeles.  Perhaps because the stories are so starkly real or maybe because they chronicle the triumph of love, I felt myself magnetically pulled into his world when I read his book or hear him speak (as he did at St. Edward recently). Father Boyle shows us time and time again that our images of God need to keep expanding as do our hearts as we try every day to pour out our love not just on those closest to us but also to the marginalized among us.
