How do I allow the light to shine in my life?
Today we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Innocents as we remember the male babies who died at the hands of King Herod, threatened by rumors of the birth of the Messiah-King. In the aftermath of the loss of innocent lives all over the world, it is sometimes difficult to keep following the light. Yet, pockets of light do shine, often brighter than before, when tragedy strikes. We become less complacent about the many gifts we have been given, more expressive of our love for those closest to us, more generous in our extension of compassion to those who are grieving. Suddenly, the timelessness of God’s presence in the midst of darkness rises up in a flash of insight. No time like the present to allow the light within to shine.
