Even now, says the LORD, return to me with your whole heart, with fasting, and weeping, and mourning; Rend your hearts, not your garments, and return to the LORD, your God. — Joel 2:12-13

Cacti remind me to take a step into the desert. Sink into sand. Think about starkness, aridity. Time to sit in the ashes of all that is broken or slowly dying and have a good think about what is really important right now, right here. Time to make a plan you can stick to for forty days and forty nights. Time to be in solidarity with Jesus and his aniwim, the little, forgotten ones.   Ash Wednesday, first day of Lent, has arrived. What’s your plan? How can you make these next six weeks different? How do you want to be when Easter Sunday dawns? Write something down. Put it where you can see it every day or when you feel weak. Pray for courage. You’ll need it to stick to the plan.
