He said in reply, “I tell you, if they keep silent, the stones will cry out!” Luke 19:40

Today is Palm or Passion Sunday, marking the beginning of Holy Week. After waving palms and proclaiming that Jesus is Lord, we read the Good Friday gospel which always stirs up a myriad of feelings. I always wonder who I would have been in the crowd scenes. Would I have wept with the women? Or jeered with the Pharisees? Would I have yelled “crucify him!” or denied I knew him? Perhaps I would have remained silent out of fear for my life.  The Passion teaches us, in a very graphic way, the cost of discipleship. Life  means ultimate suffering and death; love means sacrificing everything; forgiveness can happen at the final hour.
