“Sir, give me this water, so that I may not be thirsty. . .”  John 4:12

It’s the third Sunday of Lent and time for one of my favorite scenes from the gospel of John, Jesus meets the Samaritan woman at the well. In essence, the story is all about our insatiable thirst for God. Just as we need water to survive, we also need God but many of us are too stubborn to admit it.  We have a well deep inside of us, a spiritual space that must be filled up or else we feel forever thirsty and hungry. Some of us don’t know about this well and so we fill up mindless actions that leave us more empty than before. Some of us give all that we have away, never realizing our own needs, until there is nothing left. Today we remember the fountain of our being deep inside, given by the Beloved who whispers, “I will give you living water so that you will never be thirsty again.”
