The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. . . Matthew 21:44

Rejection and denial are themes that echo down through the centuries. Today’s gospel parable of the vineyard tenants could be a description of our modern world. Our sense of justice may rail against evil but many times the “good guys” end up losing in the public realm. In our weakness, we scapegoat the very people who could provide the vision we need to provide a secure future. In the case of Jesus, the rejected one rose from the dead and became the cornerstone, the foundation of a Christian way of life that continues to attract and fascinate us. Our prayer today:

I want to always build my home on you….Allured as I am by the flashy trends of this world,

remind me that you are stronger than steel and more beautiful than granite.

Be my cornerstone of courage.    Amen.
