Because the rhythm of my work year is so full from September to June, people often remark that I must be glad that summer is here so I can relax and wind down. The picture of me cuddled up in a hammock outside comes to mind. Little do they know that during the summer months, I set about accomplishing the many things that I have shifted to a never-ending “to-do” list throughout the year.  If I’m not careful, the pace becomes just as frenetic as other times of the year.  I know that slowing down, becoming more aware and mindful comprises the better way and so I have to give myself permission to engage in “holy leisure,” a type of contemplative prayer that feeds my  soul.  Energized then by a sweet, deep rest,  I can tackle the check-list with the right perspective, a balance of loving life and loving self.
