After all the rain of these past days the hillsides cradling our Saddleback Valley are mantled in green. All around and in the most sundry of places the deep soak has given new life to vacant lots, neglected gardens and just about all spaces not covered by suburbia. At Doheny Beach, where drought had turned desiccated grass fields into dirt, the verdant water-borne resurrection abounds. This free blessing of God’s grace has baptized our thirsty earth and given it new life. Just as I believe that there will always be a greening of my desert home after the rain, so too can I count on the greening of my human heart when I am willing to allow the grace of the One who sends it to soak in.
