When God calls to Abraham–and Abraham responds in kind–we are privy to one of the most central aspects of our faith: God calls us, and we respond. Or rather, we have a “choice” to do so. About six years ago, I was in a dark spot, and petitioned God for assistance. In my meditation, I literally heard the words, “Go to the church. And do it now.” Like Abraham, I chose to heed this…. command? suggestion? advice? Whatever your reaction might be to hearing God tell you what to do… it was the best decision I ever made. We all have a choice in God, who waits for us with wide, hopeful, and loving arms… if we allow ourselves to submit to a different kind of ultimate freedom.
