Last week, after supervising over 300 children attending Vacation Bible School, my soul was bombarded each day with noise, song, laughter and the incredible power of ubridled energy. With the encouragement to express enthusiasm for God, everyone (adults included) left each day enlivened in their faith. Even those of us carrying big challenges and sorrows had to smile during the worship segment when children were jumping and singing at the top of their lungs about standing strong with God. Indeed, I thought. . . where else do we have permission to dance, talk and sing about what lies so deeply in the heart? Given a little freedom to be real, a time and place to be with others who believe, we are given a bonding memory that can be held outside the walls of a gym or church; a place to return when fear, doubt and uncertainty creeps back into the daily task of living.
