Forgiveness isn’t easy, but it is necessary if you want to be free. For two years after my husband of 30 years left and filed for divorce, I asked Our Lord to forgive him for me because I couldn’t. And then one Palm Sunday, as I was kneeling before Mass and asking God to forgive me for not forgiving him, I realized I had forgiven him. Immediately, the following thought popped into my head,”Oh yeah, and how long do you think THAT is going to last?” I fired back, “It doesn’t matter, I’ve crossed the line, I will always come back to forgiveness.” Forgiving my former husband has been the single most liberating experience of my life. I can say without equivocation, forgiveness is a game changer and allows for healing. Forgiveness puts you in alignment with God, opens your heart, and allows for new beginnings.
