“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.” — Psalm 106

Yesterday, I received the news that a childhood friend died in a car accident. In my sadness, I started to remember how Steve was my first “summer chum”. I was 10, and even though he was 5 years older than me, we were immediately kindred spirits, finding ways to spend the summer: lingering at the beach, getting into trouble, riding bikes everywhere, surfing our brains out. When the waves were flat, we’d raft to the outer reef area offshore and spearfish. One time on the way in, we held an impromptu “hooting” contest to see who could echo the most against the adjacent cliffs and surrounding town… “Awww-ooooooooo”…  rolling in laughter as we measured how many echos bounced around. In the midst of why God takes who He does, when He does… I will chant my thanks for these times spent together. Love you Steve.
