Collectively, we need prayers of lamentation. We need to cry out in our distress and anguish. We need to regularly bring our feelings of sadness, outrage, and injustice and lay them at the feet of God. Does this change God’s mind somehow? Will God then step in and stop the madness of evil? Without dashing this hope, these prayers of lament more often have a powerful effect on US rather than on God. Lamentations produce tears, the natural holy water of the Spirit. Good Friday is a perfect time for this kind of prayer. Please come and join me at St. Edward Church for our annual Lamentations Prayer Service at 7:00 PM.
