Favorite Crosses
Do you have a favorite cross
He asked gazing at them all
Hanging on walls and perched on shelves
I laugh and say well yes
It’s a love hate relationship really
These invisible crosses in my life
That I carry with such precision now
His authoritative voice
Her arrogant demands
Flagrant omissions and
Mindless obsessions
Self loathing thoughts
Fears about health and being alone
Having enough money in the bank
The list goes on and on
These crosses we all bear
Even offering them up
Doesn’t really work anymore
And yet what would we do without them
They have defined our paths
Led us to a dying place
Just a step away from resurrection
