If you made a plan on Ash Wednesday to fast from something during Lent, how are you doing? Taking stock each day as a type of self-monitoring is a good way to stay on the path. Fasting is an ancient form of spiritual self-discipline and some of us are better at it than others. While fasting can be difficult, almost nothing produces a better sense of accomplishment.
If you chose to give up a favorite food, perhaps you might think about going to another level and fasting from a nagging habit or tendency. On the other hand, if you are obsessively disciplined (rigid?) about some behavior, perhaps now is the time to fast from the addictive-like grip of regimentation. Take some time today and think deeply about what fasting means for you.
