The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast.” — Matt 9:15

Only two days during Lent, Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, we are asked by the Church to fast  in between meals and to limit our food intake at meals. However, many Catholics use Lent as a time to make a 40 day commitment to give up something that requires a sacrifice. We do this to not only learn detachment but also to be in solidarity with those who are starving for nourishment throughout the world.
