“I came into this world for judgment, so that those who do not see might see, and those who do see might become blind.”   John 9:39

The story of the man born blind in John’s gospel is proclaimed every year on the Fourth Sunday of Lent for the RCIA rite of the second scrutiny. As the Elect and Candidates get closer to Easter, they enter into an inner crucible, submitting to prayers of exorcism in the midst of community. They openly admit that they need more than will power to overcome the darkness that haunts them. They need the healing touch of Christ who desires to give a new, expanded vision of life. Those of us who believe we have it all together in the spirituality department are challenged by their examples of honest subjugation. Those us us who claim to see just might become blind if we’re not careful.
