“I have come not to abolish but to fulfill.. . ”     Matthew 5:17

Adherence to the law was very important to the Jewish people. They firmly believed that right conduct was an essential part of faith and so actions were held to the highest standards. Then along came Jesus who spoke with authority about God, calling Him “Abba” or “Daddy,” eating and drinking on the Sabbath with outcasts, reprimanding them for what was inside their hearts and calling them hypocrites. No wonder his radical ways were met with suspicion. They feared he would make chaos out of their well-ordered lives. Maybe we still haven’t learned Jesus’ both/and, non-dualistic lesson.
