I wonder what the people said or did after Jesus disappeared in their midst. Were they able to believe then? Or were they so angry that they explained away the miracle? Unfortunately, the gospel doesn’t fill in these details. Perhaps not so different from today, Jesus lives right in the midst of us but we are too busy, too distracted, too full of scientific doubt to notice. Tuning into the divine frequency of Jesus shouldn’t be that difficult. Like surround sound, maybe the volume has just been dialed down by laziness or stubborn egoism.
