While he was still a long way off, his father caught sight of him, and was filled with compassion. He ran to his son, embraced him and kissed him. Luke 15:16
The story of the Prodigal Son resonates deeply with anyone who has chosen to stray from the straight and narrow. Out of the many symbols and characters in this story, I most often find myself dwelling on the embrace of parent and child. I imagine the scene, complete with crescendo music in the background, as a movie and the tears flow. There is such longing in the deep-down for the embrace of a forgiving Father.
