Hugs, and especially a warm embrace from a loved one, can interrupt and surprise us. Even those of us who have wider borders around personal space melt into the warmth of these nonverbal acts of love. Further, consider that since God is pure Spirit without physical arms, the divine embrace flows through us whenever we are willing to reach beyond our comfort zones. We are Christ’s body here on earth. When we wrap our arms around others, like the Father and the prodigal son, we are providing the skin that God needs to comfort a world in need.
