This was the first time that many of you ever venerated the cross – an interesting and new experience. This year, we fashioned the cross out of a real tree that was found as driftwood on the beach at Doheny State Park. Perhaps because it was a real living thing once, the energy from its gnarled trunk communicated a sense of divine presence that was palpable. The candles were added for our Lamentations Service in the evening. Over 300 people were there to lament over personal sufferings and the pain of the whole world.
